Governors: Main Duties

Governors

Main Duties

Our role as governors is to act as representatives of the community and serve as a ‘critical friend’ of the school by providing advice and support. Our role is to take a largely strategic role in the running of the school, putting the interests of our children ahead of all other considerations.

As we are a voluntary aided church school, most of our governors are foundation governors and appointed by the Church. In addition we have 3 elected parent governors and two local authority governors. As governors we are proud to support the school within the St Margaret’s community, celebrating its considerable successes and its good name.

We have a wide range of statutory responsibilities. We appoint staff, we make sure the National Curriculum is being delivered correctly and that the school makes the best possible use of its finances.

Governors cannot carry out our work properly without getting to know the school as well as we can. This is not easy for people in full-time jobs, but governors are generous with their time, and the school – both staff and children – make us very welcome and involve us in what is going on.

We are always pleased to hear your comments about our school. It helps us to know what you think works well and what we can improve upon. If there is anything you would like to tell us about, please contact one of our parent governors or Nick Jones our chairperson..
