Great play at Borough Netball tournament w/c March 4th

This week we competed in the borough netball competition, notching up a fourth place out of thirty three schools. We wanted to follow up our schools recent success in finishing top of our mini league (see story below) and really push ourselves against schools we haven't played before. We had five games in the first group stage, with only the top two schools set to qualify. Winning four of our five games meant we were through to the next stage. We then entered the second group stage, knowing coming top was the only way we would qualify for the semi finals. Despite losing the first game we won the next three, moving to the semi finals after winning the final game with an impressive 5-0 scoreline. Unfortunately, we fell at the semi-final hurdle to a Hampton side, losing 4-2 in a game which could have gone either way. We played some truly fabulous netball. This performance is a credit, not just to those who took part on the day, but to the other players who push them, week in, week out, at our club training sessions. To finish fourth out of thirty three schools is a magnificent achievement. Well done to Isla, Hettie, Mila, Sybil, Mollie, Albert, Xander and Eli.

NETBALL TEAM WINS LOCAL LEAGURE - W/C MARCH 4TH

Last week our netball team played against St Richard Reynolds School to win our local league. We produced a solid display winning 5-0, with Mila taking all the plaudits for some amazing shooting. Well done to all those who took part and really showed how far we have come this year. Well done to - Izzy, Hettie, Mollie, Mila, Annika, Sybil, Xander, Albert and Eli

Huge congratulations to our football girls who are through to the cup!- w/c 26th February

This week we traveled to the Vineyard School for our final league game of the season. To ensure qualification for the cup we needed to secure a win, nothing else would do. Following a very even first half we went in at the break with the score line at 1-1 thanks to Madi who finished off a very well worked goal. After a half time discussion on how we could try and dominate in the second half we grabbed a winning goal in the dying seconds of the game, thanks to an unbelievable volley by Hettie. The goal was well received by the excited St Stephen's supporters on the sidelines. Two fabulous goals and a real effort from the whole team. Unfortunately Florence was not available, however we welcomed back Sybil for her first game of the season after injury. Well done Hettie, Annie, Mollie, Sybil, Persey, Madi, Emi and player of the match Mila. We are so proud of you all.

BOYS FOOTBALL - LEAGUE WINNERS - W/c February 5th

The boys headed to their final league fixture knowing only a victory would do against local rivals St Mary's, due to their significant goal difference. We headed to North Sheen Recreation ground feeling confident, as the boys continue to develop as a team, remaining unbeaten to date. St Stephen's soon took hold of the game and were on top throughout. Midway through the first half Oli broke through and finished superbly to score, following some great teamwork. However, this is where the goals ended, despite Seb crashing the ball against our opponents bar, the game ended 1-0 to St Stephen's. We secured the league title, as well as qualification to the cup, as one of the top two sides. Huge congratulations to everyone there for their dominance throughout and a special mention to Alistair for his 'man of the match' performance. He defended like a warrior! Well done Aydin, Ali, Peyton, Freddie, Seb, Albert and Oli. What a performance!

Girls Football - W/c February 5th

The girls football team travelled to Sheen Recreation Ground to face off against their counterparts from St Mary's. Our girls started the match well and it was soon clear that it was a dead heat in terms of ability. Thanks to the defensive efforts of Mila and Mollie, the St Mary's forwards found it difficult to make any progress up the pitch. With Persey, Emi, Florence, Hettie and Madi up front, there was some great teamwork and passes of play that led to a few opportunities in the first half.

Unfortunately, late in the frame on a long throw, the ball bounced awkwardly right on to the foot of a St Mary's player to make it 1-0. In the second half, Annie stood Tall (yes with a capital T) and kept us in the game. With all the girls on both sides putting in such an evenly strong effort, the clock wound down and the score remained, 1-0 to St Mary's. It was a valiant effort and we can't wait to see how the girls perform next time they grace the pitch!

Netball Friendly - W/c February 5th

Last Thursday Hazel, Molly G, Polly, Mollie W, Izzy, Albert and Zander took part in a friendly, impromptu fixture versus Deer Park school. It was a great opportunity to see some of our squad compete, as well as pinpoint areas to work on. We are so proud of all those who contributed. Look out for more netball in our next issue, when we will have a match report on our first league fixture.

Netball - league win against St Mary's - W/c February 5th

Tag Rugby - we won the league - January

St Stephen's 10 (50) - 1 (5) St Elizabeth's

St Stephen's 3 (15) - 0 (0) Deer Park

Our Tag Rugby team is going from strength to strength, notching up a resounding win against St Elizabeth's. Hettie took the plaudits for player of the match with an amazing defensive performance. Indeed, not one player was able to get past her. In addition, Margaret and Alistair made their tag rugby debuts, slotting into the team beautifully. We finished the season as league winner and secured a place in the cup which will be played after Easter. Well done to all Seb, Hettie, Samuel, Margaret, Thomas, Isla, Alistair, Freddie and Eli.

WE GIVE YOU OUR COUNTY DODGEBALL CHAMPS - January 22nd

We're so proud of our dodgeball team who travelled to Redhill this week to compete in (and win!) the county dodgeball championships. Our Sports Coach, Danny Cain, brought us this report: "Going into the tournament, we were very optimistic as we have been regularly practicing at dodgeball club, as well as in our PE lessons. So, we really felt that we were well prepared. Our team performed so well in their first three games, winning them all and only dropping one point. Then, it was on to the semi final, which was probably our toughest match of the day, winning the first game, losing the second, drawing the third and then, finally, triumphing in the last two games to progress to the final. The final was a supreme performance. We went ahead 8-0, knowing the victory was already secured. There were brilliant performances from all those involved.  Well done to Isla M, Isla H, Mila, Sybil, Thomas, Eli, Seb, Oli and Rafferty. I am so very proud of the team."

Well done dodgeballers and Mr Cain, we are all very proud of you. And, for the statisticians among you, here are the score lines below:

FOOTBALL RESULTS - WELL DONE TO OUR TEAMS. HERE'S MR CAIN'S REPORT - January 22nd

Last Friday we travelled to North Sheen Recreation Centre, which will be the new home for our football teams. Despite a few absentees in the girls team we put on a dominant display, winning 2-0 against Holy Trinity. The girls were in control throughout and thoroughly deserved the win, with goals coming from Madi and Florence. Well done Annika, Madi, Mollie, Florence, Emi, Hettie and Mila.

The boys took on the same opponent and also showed their progress with some entertaining football. They kept the ball and really frustrated their opponents, allowing us more and more opportunities at goal. It did take a while to get our first goal, but once we managed it, there was only ever going to be one winner and that was St Stephen's! Two Goals from Oli, one each from Seb, Raff and Albert gave us a convincing 5-0 victory. Well done to Aydin, Seb, Peyton, Ali, Albert, Oli, Raff and Freddie.

DODGEBALL REPORT FROM MR CAIN - 11th December

To say competing in our first ever dodgeball competition was eventful does not really do the day justice. As the tournament progressed we got stronger and stronger and our team play gathered momentum. In order to progress we knew we had to finish in the top two to make it through to the semi-final stage and, after six enthralling matches, we made it! We won with probably our best overall play of the day. In the final it went down to the last game, with both teams winning two games apiece. However, with the last throw as the decider, our opponents hit one of our team to ensure 2-1 players left after the timer. With all things considered I couldn't be prouder of those involved. They showed some remarkable resilience, determination and bravery from start to finish, only losing to the eventual competition winners. A great sporting day. Well done team!

Sporting Glory - 27th November

Sporting fixtures are coming thick and fast and we have recently fielded teams in local football, tag rugby and cross competitions. Over to Danny Cain, our Sports Coach, for some in-depth analysis of the performances. "First up we travelled to the Russell School for our first tag rugby league fixture, hoping to build on our recent second place finish at the Richmond Borough Tournament. After a slow start we soon got into our groove and played some great rugby - our defensive play a particular highlight. Our ability to win back possession quickly has been a major factor in our success and this was evident on the day. Seb and Thomas led the charge with some scintillating tries. We battled and managed to secure an 8-1 (40-5) win. Well done to Hettie, Isla, Seb, Sam, Thomas, Eli, Freddie,Theo and George.

Next up we attended the Year Five and Six cross country competition. The children have been preparing for this in our PE lessons which was evident on the day. Our boys all finished in the top thirty and our girls did extremely well too, with Violet taking the biggest plaudits of the morning, finishing fourth overall in the girls race. This was a massive achievement as she is in Year Five and was one of the youngest runners on the day. Well done Eva, Violet, Isla, Mollie, Amelia, Hettie, Raff, Alex, Freddie, Shan-Wei, Oli and Albert."

We also caught up with Mr Dale for a report on the recent girls' football match. "Girls from Years Five and Six competed at NPL against other schools in the borough. They worked brilliantly as a team, encouraging each other from the first whistle. The girls did a tremendous job, not conceding a single goal until the quarter finals which unfortunately saw us defeated. They should be hugely proud of themselves. Well done Mollie G, Sybil, Hettie, Madi, Annie, Mila, Persey, Alice, Emi and Florence."

Thank you so much to Mr Cain, Mr Dale and Mr Munn for coaching and accompanying our teams.

Friendly Win for Year Five Boys - 30th October

Just before half-term, a team of Year Five boys played a friendly match against Springfield Primary School in Sunbury. According to our Sports Coach, Danny Cain, the 2-1 final score line did not reflect the fact the boys dominated the ball throughout the contest. "We were in control from start to finish, despite gifting our opponents a one goal! Overall, our performance with the ball was fantastic and our ball retention was magnificent at times. We will keep working on our skills but this a great opportunity for some of the Year Five boys to showcase themselves to earn a spot in the Year 5/6 school fixtures in the coming weeks," said Mr Cain.
