Singing Club Wow at O2 Young Voices
On Tuesday last week 34 talented singers from St Stephen’s joined 200 other schools to form a choir that was more than 8,800 strong.
It was the biggest choir ever to sing at the O2 and also the biggest in the 20-year history of the Young Voices series of concerts.
More than two million children have taken part in a Young Voices concert and the aim is to inspire a love of music and create memories that will last a lifetime. The children performed for an audience of enthusiastic parents and family members.
Resplendent in their white Young Voices t-shirts, they performed a wide variety of material including medleys from Moana and the American Folk tradition (Yankie Doodle anyone?), rallying cries (A Little Can Change our World) and the tear-jerker (We Are the World).
The finale consisted of a medley from The Greatest Showman, which ended, fittingly, with the lyric “This is the greatest show!” But the song still rattling around people’s heads a week later is the chorus of I’m the King of the Swingers from Jungle Book!
Many thanks to Mrs Young - much lauded director, producer and voice coach – who accompanied the children. Also to chaperones Mr Munn, Miss Cooper, Rosie Dilworth, Marian Sheil Tankard and Gale Davies.
