Combination Dance Workshops - Equality for all in Sport
We had some good news that Combination Dance - the fantastic company that came last year to deliver last year's workshops to celebrate 100 Years since the Women received the vote - were awarded a Civic Pride grant to deliver some free workshops in 5 schools across the borough including 3 primary schools. And St. Stephen's was lucky enough to be one of them!
From EYFS through to Year 6, the children had workshops across two days culminating in a performance on Tuesday afternoon all around the theme: Equality for all in Sport. As this project was supported by Harlequins Ladies Rugby Union Team, the chosen sport to explore this genre was all through Rugby and celebrating all this encompasses!
Our sessions started with rugby-style warm ups - sent directly from the professional athletes at Harlequins - before immersing ourselves into different genres of dance...hip-hop and contemporary to name but a few! A particular special mention must go out to Year 3 who used the music's lyrics to sign language throughout their piece to communicate the message of equality and its importance. There wasn't a dry eye in the house!
