RAISING THE ROOF AT THE O2
On Monday January 29th, 36 of the most tuneful St Stephen’s pupils from Years 2 to 5, joined more than 7500 children at the O2 Arena to form the Young Voices 2018 Choir.
For the past 20 years, Young Voices has staged the largest children's choir concerts in the world. Over 2 million children have taken part in a Young Voices concert and the aim is to inspire a love of music and create memories for the children that will last a lifetime.
The theme of the evening was POSITIVE SELF IMAGE and this was reflected in the repertoire of songs that were chosen for the event, which included I Love My Life and I Am Extraordinary. There were special songs written specifically for the concert, but the children also embraced more universally known hits from living legends such as Stevie Wonder and Toto, to modern masters including Ed Sheeran and Robbie Williams. Without doubt the most popular and catchy performance of the evening (and one that is probably still going round inside the heads of the Choir and audience) was the medley of classic cartoon theme songs, which included Pink Panther, DangerMouse and Inspector Gadget!
By providing a diverse range of musical styles children will learn, enjoy, and gain a fuller understanding of music and what it means to sing together.
Many thanks to Mrs Young – much lauded director, producer & voice coach – who accompanied the children – also to chaperones Mr Munn, Miss Cooper, Jen Halliwell and Marian Sheil Tankard, all resplendent in their Young Voices t-shirts!
